Traffic officer killed by vehicle in Mbale, driver lynched

A traffic police officer, Emmanuel Namitengo, was killed on Friday after being struck by a speeding Toyota Hiace, registration number UA 922BQ, at the Doko Fika Salama traffic checkpoint in Mbale. According to Elgon region police spokesperson Rogers Taitika, Namitengo was on duty when the vehicle, travelling from Kamonkoli towards Mbale city, knocked him down. The driver, whose identity had not been disclosed, was reportedly pulled from the vehicle and lynched by an angry mob at the scene. Namitengo’s body has been taken to Mbale City Mortuary for postmortem examination, while the vehicle has been impounded at the police yard as investigations into the incident continue.
